This morning year 7&8 students from Matawai came to our school and was in our class. We did some P.E with an icebreaker game like ultimate frisbee but with a tennis ball on the netball courts. Then we came into class and got into groups mixed with year 7&8's and some kids from Matawai school and collaborated with them while making a paper plane with 3 papers 4 straws and a piece of blue tack, we had to use all the straws and blue tack that was provided and we also got some tape.
So we got together in a group, I was with Amy from my class and 2 Matawai girls called, Aleasha and Lily. It was good to be with girls from a different school and collaborate with them. We made a plane, our goal was to make it streamline and think about the way it glides and how it will fly.
So we made the plane and put some straws down the spine and down the side of the wings, to give it some support. We tested it out a few times and thought it was going well. We thought about some techniques on the way we could throw it. In the end our plane flew straight into the ground and our throwing technique of it wasn't too flash. It was great to be with some new people.
It was easy too talk too everyone in our group and share our ideas with each other. It was difficult finding places to put the leftover straws. Next time what I would do differently is, make it stronger and more sturdy!
